Interview by J. Walker

In the world of urban modeling there are many gorgeous girls that grace pages of magazines and that appear in major videos. These girls work extra hard to make the scene sexy and have guys gazing at them everyday. As you could imagine, it is also a very competitive industry where a lot of times cat fights amongst models start and jealousy and envy come into play. Yes, we are talking about the “haters”.

We would like to introduce you to one model who is all about helping other models get exposure and start their career, while at the same time is adding to her own resume. Her name is Amazin Amie. Im sure you can already tell by the pictures that she deserves that name. But Amie is one of those special models because she is also “amazin” inside as well. She is a very positive person who supports others and shows them alot of love and support. A lot of girls consider her the “mother of models” due to her nurturing character. We met up with Amie and wanted to ask her some questions about her and the urban modeling industry.

First off, How did you get the name Amazin Amie?

I used to do promotional modeling for Azzure denim and when I would go to the warehouse to try on clothes they always said… amazin’ lol. So that’s where Amazin Amie originated.

Where are you from?

Newport News, VA but I also have a condo in Miami

What is your ethnic background?

Predominately German

When did you know you wanted to get in the modeling game?

I started off taking pictures for fun. At the time I honestly just wanted something cool for my myspace page lol. But once I shot with Patrick Adams it changed my whole perspective. He got me published after only my second time shooting with him. It motivated me to want to do more. I credit him for starting my professional modeling adventure.

Did anyone inspire you?

I know you probably making mention to another model but at that time it was Patrick Adams and Aisha (@FaBeauGlam) that inspired me. They gave me the confidence I needed and stood behind me when at times I wanted to give up. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. I will be forever grateful. I still work with both of them to this day. I consider them family.

How the hell did you get an ASSet like that?

I’m blessed

What’s your secret?

Cardio, squats and lunges

What was your very first magazine that you were in?

Straight Stuntin (@RealSStuntinMag)

What magazine feature of yours do you like the most and why?

Any of my SHOW magazine issues. They have one of the best photographers on the planet, Nick Saglimbeni (@NickSaglimbeni) and also because their images are sexy yet very classy.

Do you think urban models get a bad rap in this game and don’t get the respect they deserve?

I do believe urban models are judged heavily. However the way you carry yourself, speak, and pose for pictures can gain the respect of many. Like you once told me, its not what they call you, its what u answer to! However, you only have one chance to make a 1st impression so my suggestion is be aware of your actions and be conscience of how you may be perceived.

We see you are nominated for an Urban Model Award, tell us about that…

Yes, I was nominated for best body. I was so flattered. Not just by the category, but to be a part of something so monumental! It was a blessing to be recognized as an Urban Model. And I am very grateful for the people behind that movement.

We see you are a very positive person and you show a lot of people love. Do you think that’s missing in this game?

To some extent. I run across girls that actually get mad when I promote certain models because they feel that I’m making it harder for them. I feel like this, if its meant for you to have something there’s nothing I can do to stop that. Use it as motivation to push harder. I’m not bias I show love to everyone. Even people that I feel aren’t grateful for it. If I like someone’s work I’m going to give credit where its due even if I don’t get a thank you. I don’t take it personal because that’s not what I’m doing it for. It is what it is. But I do feel what you put out is what you get back so I believe in being positive all of the time and it is needed in this field..

What are you playing in your ipod these days?

Beyonce

Biggie or 2Pac?

2Pac

Do you have any other hidden talents that we don’t know about? sing? juggle? etc. :)

I wish sheeeeeesh. If I could sing I’d never talk. Everything would be a song lol

You do have an amazing body, do you workout?

Yea, I try to get it in at least 4 times a week

Are you a health food freak or do you like fast food?

I’m not a health food freak but I do prefer organic foods. I don’t have any crazy diet rituals (unless its before a photoshoot) I do eat fast food from time to time but primarily when I’m traveling.

How is your love life? We heard you have a special person in your life…

It couldn’t be better! He is very supportive and that makes everything easier on me.

Does size matter?

I mean to each his own. Speakin for myself I’m very satisfied in my current situation.

What else would you like to accomplish that you have not yet?

I like to get more involved in film work. And I’d like to do a couple of print ads for sunglasses/makeup.

If there was one celebrity you would like to meet who would it be and why?

Oprah, because she is so inspirational.

Do you think the print magazine world is fading away?

No, seems to be alive and kickin to me. As long as I’m steadily getting booked I don’t have any worries.

What is your opinion about online magazines?

I think eventually everything will be internet based because it cheaper to maintain due primarily to distribution. And also because its easy to access.

Do you think that’s the future of publications?

Yea, I think its still nice to have a hardcopy of the work you’ve done though. So as long as there is an option to order one online everyone should be happy.

What advice do you give these girls that want to become an urban model?

It would be to think it through thoroughly. You have to have high self esteem and a huge support system. People criticize and judge you without ever seeing or saying a word to you. If you really want to pursue this venture you have to be mentally stable to handle what comes with it.

What’s next for Amazin Amie?

SHOW magazine Black lingerie 13 and SHOWcase early next year

Any shoutouts?
