Check out this hot new artist that is about to BLOW UP! He has been doing his thing for years and now with his album complete, the skies the limit!

We have come across hundreds, maybe even thousands of artists starving to make it one day and get that record deal and be one of the greatest. The hunger of the artists is what usually determines the end result. When we were told about Toolez (pronounced tools) a few years back from one of our staff members, we can’t front, we blew him off. We were told about how dope he was and how he was the full package. What do you expect, we hear that kind of talk all the time. So for months we let that email just sit in our inbox with one of his singles “Sexy”. Finally, we went through our inbox and decided to download the song and give it a listen. All we could say was “Wow!”.

We became instant fans of Toolez’s music because it was very real and dude sounds like a veteran already. More importantly, after meeting Toolez and developing a relationship with him personally, we have discovered one of those artists that just have that “IT” factor. He is undeniable and his songs and his whole package speaks for itself. The songs he pens and puts together are certainly industry quality and definitely need to be heard. His love for his music he makes and his contribution to hip hop is quite refreshing and impressive. We sat down to chop it up with him to see what he got going on.

DPM: Let’s start off by asking you about your name Toolez. Where did that come from?

It comes from when you combined the almighty Zeus and Achilles you get Toolez [laughing!] Nah my last name is Tooles and everyone in my hood calls me Toolzie or Toolzy. I just dropped the S off of my last name.

DPM: We see you are from Coatesville, PA. That’s the same city Rip Hamilton is from. Do you know him?

Of course! We all “know” Rip, he and I just so happen to be cousins. Shout out to the homie.

DPM: What or who inspired you do be an artist?

It’s my passion. I’ve been doing this for a while making records that some might consider classic for free so I would say it’s just my passion. On top of that, half of my family has been in music in some shape or form before I was even born so it was pretty much inevitable.

DPM: Now you are not just the average artist, you actually graduated from UCONN and won a national championship playing basketball. Congrats on that! What did that experience teach you?

I learned a lot going to Uconn. For starters, the statistics show that coming from the environment that I come from, I wasn’t supposed to graduate from anyone’s University. The lesson in that is anything is possible. I also saw a world different from any of my peers would ever see. I played for a Hall of Fame coach, we road on private planes, stayed in 5 star hotels and I got the best education money can buy. I learned a lot.

DPM: We have been following your career for a few years and have watched you grow and grow in to the artist you are now. What are the some of the things that make Toolez different from other artists?

Besides the fact that I can out-rap artists and still manage to make dope songs, I’m different because who I am isn’t necessarily “cool” in the hip-hop world, I just make it look cool. I’m very, very honest almost to a fault. What rapper openly admits to going to college, playing basketball and have a bachelor’s degree? Some of us lie about having a regular job in a past life [laughing]

DPM: Your single “Sexy” was getting spins all over the world. How did you feel when your record was getting love in other countries?

It was crazy! With no deal and being asked to perform with Fat Joe all the way over in London is a humbling experience.

DPM: What keeps you motivated in a time when the music business doesn’t seem that promising due to the decline in sales and the internet making it easier for music to be bootlegged?

Again it’s my passion. I already do it for free so it can’t be any worse than that. Secondly, if you believe you are born to do something you look passed the minor setbacks like bootlegging. Money isn’t the primary objective so what ever is lost from bootlegging we’ll make that back in endorsements and touring baby.

DPM: What do you think hip-hop is missing right now? (besides you lol)

That’s it, just me [laughing]. Nah hip-hop in general is evolving. I don’t think it’s missing anything nor does it need to be saved. With that being said, I do believe we need to be more cognoscente of the quality of music that we put out. We need to start holding ourselves to a higher standard.

DPM: If you could work with any artist, who would it be and why?

Maxwell. I think a joint with Maxwell would be crazy. I’ve always liked his vibe and I’m curious what a studio session would be like.

DPM: You have opened up for some big names like Ludacris and Kanye West to name a few. What was your best experience when opening up or working somehow with major artists?

Probably T.I. I did a show in Baltimore with TIP and got a standing ovation. That was one of the illest feelings. Another crazy thing that happened that night is when he addressed the Shawty Lo rumors.

DPM: Tell us about your label 50/50 L.G. Entertainment and your plans with that?

50/50 is my Rocafella, that’s my Ruff Ryders, Murder Inc, DTP, Young Money etc. We aspire to be a fortune 500 company even in a recession. That’s what I rep! Shout out to my partners Adam & Dre Money.

DPM: Who else do you have on your label?

We have an R&B artist by the name of Walt Anderson who is insane, and we have a production company BeatsBytheGram formerly of Trackmasters. We’re still missing two pieces but we’ll get there.

DPM: You have an album completed called “The Crown Holder”. Tell us about that album and what that is about and your plans with it?

I think we nailed it with this one! It’s probably the best album of 2009 if we release it honestly. Before releasing it independently we’re shopping it to see if anyone makes us a lucrative offer but I’m telling you…I’m excited for people to hear it.

DPM: Who are some of the other artists featured on “The Crown Holder”?

Avery Storm, Mavado, Drake, Fabolous, and Walt Anderson to name a few.

DPM: We have listened to the whole album and I must say it’s a very well put together album. You seem to cover all your markets. Do you have an idea what your first single is going to be?

That’s a tough one because I think we have 8 songs that could be singles and maybe 3 that could be the lead single. We might just give away the sexy remix early just to create some madness within the industry. I’d say the “Sexy” remix or “You’re On Fire” as a first single just to tease them followed by “MVP”.

DPM: Name your top 3 artists.

Top 3 artist in the game right now? I would say Jay, Em, and 3 stacks.

DPM: When you are in the club do you do the Stanky Leg? Don’t lie!

Nah, I don’t do too much dancing. I enjoy watching people do the Stanky Leg though. Cracks me up!

DPM: Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?

Hopefully prepping for an award show or relaxing on a double decker Yacht blowing a Cohiba and sipping something red. That’s a regular weekend for you hunh? [laughing]

DPM: Any last words? Shout outs?

Look out for The Crown Holder coming soon!
Shout out to Dimepiece & Jay Walker for always holding me down from day one! 50/50 L.G. Entertainement, Tez and Team Toolez! www.OfficialToolez.com www.twitter.com/toolez
